Hi, I’m Cathryn Jeff

A landscape artist from Oxfordshire, UK. I have had a love of art right from an early age. My earliest memories are that I was obsessed with colouring in!

I enjoy experimenting with all types of mediums including acrylic, oil, watercolour, ink, and mixed media textures to create paintings inspired by the beautiful local countryside and seascapes from my travels.

The application of the medium is an exciting experience for me. I try different techniques to create interesting marks such as splashes, dripping, masking, dry brushing, fluid paint and textures. I get that ‘buzz’ when unexpected successful marks happen and I actually relish when things don’t go to plan, as my determination kicks in and often, from experience, that’s when the ‘good stuff’ happens!

Education

After A level Art I continued to study at Banbury Art College and finally a degree at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design in Farnham, totalling six years of art training. I worked as a Packaging Designer for over 10 years and although it was creative in a different way, I felt the need to pick up a paintbrush again in my spare time. The creativity and excitement instantly flowed back! I knew then that being a full-time artist was my goal, so I took the plunge!

Where I sell my artwork

I am a self-representing artist, this allows my customers to have the best price as they are buying direct from me with no added gallery fees! My paintings can be found here on my website with links to my Etsy shop or at many of the fairs and exhibitions I attend throughout the year. My main event of the year is participating in Oxfordshire Artweeks in the idyllic town of Charlbury for nine days during May.

My animal watercolour prints are on sale at Cogges Manor Farm Shop in Witney, West Oxfordshire. Why not visit for a lovely family day out.

In Witney Town centre you can find my very popular individual hand-painted cards and bookmarks at the SOTA Gallery. As well as at Court Barn Museum, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.

Commissions

If you are interested in having a painting commission, please contact me with your requirements. As every commission is different, I cost for them individually based on size, content, medium and frame requirements. Get in touch by using the form on my Contact page.

Teaching lessons

As well as creating my own artworks, teaching is a great passion of mine too, with the aspiration to inspire others to get creative and learn some handy techniques and painting tips along the way!

I run fun and informal day workshops for adults of all skill levels, ran approximately 4 times a year. These are held in a lovely rural village hall in North Leigh, West Oxfordshire where I live. They vary between watercolour, acrylic and mixed media textures in various subjects.

DAY WORKSHOPS £36 or £40 including materials (groups of 12 people max) 10am - 3pm

I also hold 2 hour lessons at the same venue £22 including materials, various subjects. As and when I can fit them in but approximately every few months.

Please email me so I can add you to my list so you can be notified of any future dates as soon as they are released. These sessions usually get booked up within days, which is why I don’t advertise them here on my website. So don’t delay if you want to book in!

Guest Teaching

I am often invited to host occasional lessons or day workshops for local art groups. Please contact me with your requirements if you are interested for me to host at your local art, craft or WI group based in Oxfordshire. Or, you might just want me to come and perform a talk through painting demonstration. I charge £40 per hour plus travel and set up time. Please email me with your requirements.

Personalised Children’s Pictures

In contrast to my paintings, my range of unique 3D paper craft children’s artworks were created from one design that I made for my twins’ nursery when they were babies. After having lovely feedback, I decided to develop them further and increase the range.

All my designs are original and personally designed and handmade by me with the range of designs ever growing due to their popularity. I now have over 25 cute characters to choose from.

See my Shop page to view the range.
